The Triple Crown is bestowed upon the 3 year old Thoroughbred who wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes all in the same year. Indeed it is a rare accomplishment with only 13 horses having done so in almost 150 years since these races began. As a teenager, in 1973, I was awestruck, as I watched on TV, the incredible Secretariat dominate the track, in fact winning the Belmont by 31 lengths, a world record that still stands. Then lo and behold Justify was a Triple Crown winner this year (2018). It is not hard for me to find artistic inspiration especially when it comes to the amazing feats of a Champion.
