Tipping my hat and my paint brush for the 100th year anniversary of the Negro Baseball League. Many great players played in this league including Satchel Paige, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron. This painting celebrates a real American hero, Jackie Robinson, the first African American to break the color line and play Major League Baseball. He started at 1st base for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
Moreover, he endured (non-violently) cruel racism from players and fans alike with incredible courage and humility. Jackie played a vital role in the civil rights movement, opening doors for other black athletes that would follow.
